I'm trying to figure out what speed of internet I NEED, not what speed I can get. I have several options: about 8Mbps thru a wisp, 60mbps thru charter, and up to 18mbps with u-verse. There may be other options but those are the ones I know of. I don't really want to use a cell phone as my home internet and would prefer wired to wireless. I don't know if there are any low-cost wireless offerings out there either that would be either unlimited data or close to it.
So anyway, I am on u-verse 12Mbps plan now. I am on a promo rate, and when the promo rate ends I would like to either get another promo or lower the speed, because $57 for 12Mbit is ridiculously-high and even if I wasn't trying to cut costs I could get charter for like $7 less and it's faster, but I am not a fan of charter to be honest.
So anyway, 1 user max at a time streaming video....netflix/youtube run on lowest setting because I honestly don't care...rarely download large files....mostly web browsing, social networking, and research. I know I can't get away with 768k, that would kill me. So was thinking 1.5Mbit or 3Mbit cuz I gotta keep this at or below around $40 somehow. What do they provision those speeds at? Because my 12Mbit service is overprovisioned by like 2Mbit. Do they do something similar with the lower speeds to a lesser degree?
Thanks for the advice....
