I can see how in my case jamming TV 'and' Internet Service through that little copper line into my home without expecting problems seems unrealistic, especially if 4K content comes along. My internet already slows to a snails pace at times and my TV service sometimes stops and sits there showing that 'connection lost' or whatever that screen is before it eventually reconnects (my next door neighbor had the same problem but much worse until switching to satellite).
Is AT&T's way of freeing up internet bandwidth to eventually get everyone on Direct TV? Can DTV handle future 4K content? What if Gigabyte service became the norm, wouldn't that solve congestion problems without DTV?
10 year ago I had DTV and loved the picture but changing channels was dead slow, too frustrating. However, if going that route for TV service would free up my internet I'd do it.
