Poor routing performance from east coast to west coast

I live in Riverside, CA, and I have trouble getting any decent speed from my VPS solutions and dedicated server on the east coast. I ran iperf3 on several of my servers, in reverse mode, to clock their upstream to my home connection. kode54.net, which is in DigitalOcean's NYC2 datacenter, manages to send about 1.3Mbps to me. os.kode54.net, which is in OVH/Soyoustart's BHS2 datacenter, manages to send 1.6Mbps to me. A second DigitalOcean VPS, which is in their SFO1 datacenter, sends 36Mbps over IPv4 and 24Mbps over IPv6 to my home. I am able to pull about that speed from the above two servers if I SSH tunnel through this server. 1.6Mbps versus 36Mbps makes a world of difference when running Windows Terminal Services, but isn't really noticeable with SSH.
