we just ordered this new high speed vDSL service to a new house purchase for internet and phone only (no Uverse TV). This is Fiber to the node and plain old copper to the house. The install involved a couple of ATT techs because apparently there was also a problem at the ped. Here is my question, the line is supposed to be active & working however I can not get a dial tone at the feed coming into the house (which is a standard 4 pair cat 5 cable). Is this normal for a vDSL line OR should I be able to get a dial tone at the feed ? The thought crossed my mind that maybe this is a data only feed and then then it's the modem that actually converts the signal and provides the dial tone? (this is definitely not how aDSL works).
If it's the modem that provides the dial tone, and I don't know which pair they used for the signal then how am I supposed to figure this out ? The dial tone was a nice simple way to identify which pair and that everything is working correctly before having to mess with setting up the router. Please help
