This has been a fiasco, but fortunately everything is working out (for now) I had an install on Friday and during the 2 hours the installer was here I was told (eventually) that I was only able to get the 24Mbps speed since I was to far away for the 17a profile. I let him go ahead and do that and moved on. Fast forward to today and I was moving the u-verse router around and decided to place it in the structured media panel where the phone line comes into the apartment to get it out of the way. After chatting with AT&T online I was able to convince a technical support team member to bump me to the 17a profile to see if it would work and sure enough it did! Here's the thing. My line stats don't look very good. Noise margin on the download is really low but my internet seems fine. I don't have TV service so that isn't an issue for me and in general I'm seeing the speeds I'm paying for. Does the 17Mhz profile have more tolerances for noise. Also does anyone have any suggestions for getting a better noise margin?
