My apologies if this is a common question, but it's a difficult one to search.
I just had a new U-verse line installed with a 2wire firewall/router/modem. It's cabled wall->2wire, then a cable runs 2wire->settop box.
I'd like to grant some game consoles LAN access without resorting to wireless. My question, then: can I put a switch between the DVR and the 2wire, and split off a few more connections? Is it just another device on my LAN so far as the equipment is concerned?
If the answer to the above is "yes, it's just another LAN device," two follow-up questions:
1) Does the DVR/TV take a chunk of my 24/5 connection?
2) Can I interact with the DVR in any useful way by IP address?
