Hi. I have AT&T Uverse and for some reason, at random times my internet keeps spiking to 400-425ms making online gaming unplayable. I have lost several games because of this and if it continues I will be looking into other internet options. I built a new computer recently with very good parts so absolutely nothing hardware wise should be the problem here. The first couple of weeks after I finished building the PC I used a wifi adapter to connect to the Uverse modem and thats when I first started noticing the lag spikes. At first I thought it was just a problem with the wifi adapter. For most of the day it wouldn't do this. But it seemed to do it at least once a day for an hour or 2 and sometimes 2 times a day. Sometimes it would go a couple of days and not do it but it was something that kept coming back. I finally decided to buy a CAT5 cable and ran it from the modem to my desktop (100ft cable). For a few days this didn't happen and I figured it was the wifi adapter with the issue. Well, this morning it happened again and kept going up to 400ms for a few minutes and then for about 30 seconds it would go back down to normal latency (which is about 70 for me) and then spike back up. I plugged in the wifi adapter while this was happening to see if it was still happening and it was so its not the wifi adapter or the CAT5 cable. Its happening on both. I've tried driver updates, PC restarts and modem restarts. Nothing works! When this happens it frustrates me so much and I want to find out why this is happening so I can fix it.
Does anyone know why this could be happening?
