I'm looking at switching to vDSL in the next several months and wonder if anyone has some good details about the lower speed tier offerings available. I don't need more than 3/1 Mbps and have no interest in IPTV or UVoice offerings either, I do NOT want to pay a monthly rental fee for the modem/gateway. I am about 3250 ft away from the VRAD so I see that the only choices for purchased modems are the 2wire 3600 or Pace 5301.
So when I sign up for that lowest speed tier branded U Verse 3/1 Mbps, am I actually being placed on the VRAD or are they simply switching me to a ADSL+2 in the DSLAM?
Spoke with AT&T phone CSR and they said I could simply buy a modem and self install, but I only have a regular NID, and I believe that my current homerun is to a regular copper pedestal and NOT to the vDSL FTTN pedestal.
Also I noticed that finding a new vDSL modem is very difficult online can AT&T still sell me a brand new one? I would prefer that as I know it wasn't abused or possibly not returned to AT&T most of the offerings are either used or refurb and that makes me nervous for more than one reason, not worth the trouble in my opinion.
Thanks for the help.
