Hi all, kinda new here and I have a question for those that have already upgraded to the "new" 75 tier with Uverse. Hopefully someone that reads this lives near me. I'm in Jacksonville, Florida. More specifically Orange Park. I have the NVG589 and the 45 meg tier and from what I understand there are people running it with the new 75 meg tier but ATT is telling me that I HAVE to have a install tech come and replace the 589 with the 599. While I am actually glad this is the case because it has the new AC WIFI protocol which will allow me to upgrade my computers that use WIFI I do not quite understand why this HAS to be done. The tech said that any tier 75 and up is now considered part of their GIGAPower service and that it has to be this way. I asked if I could just get a self install kit or pick up the new modem from an ATT store and was told they do not allow self install at this speed. I think it's kinda a joke really and the only install date is the 27th of this month. I guess they have their reasons for this. Maybe there have been sporadic issues with people already on the new tier. My guess the 599 is just like the 589 with the new AC WIFI protocol the only difference and still has the same old terrible embedded software.
Anyone else have this issue? Those that are using the 589 how is your service? I'm sure looking forward to GIGApower or Google fiber, both are on the confirmed list for my city.
