1st, this may ? be wrong forum? For home internet-only (PC's), looking for help on different technologies & options - not just Uverse or cable (Charter). Don't need TV bundles.
We're on our son's cell plan (w/ AT&T) - but our phones have only "basic voice" service - not internet. He has full service. That could change, if cost effective for us to get home internet for PCs."
We've had AT&T DSL, then Uverse (internet only) for many yrs.
Our Uverse Internet promo * just ended * - was 50% off the 12 mbit price. About $28.xx total.
Didn't "need" 12 mbit, but it was the cheapest promo.
Called Uverse Retention for new promos - once, so far. Offered only $15 off reg. price of either 12 mbit or 6 mbit.
Reg. prices w/ current offer: 12 mbit = 57 - 15 = 42.xx; 6 mbit = 52 - 15 = 37.xx.
We're both retired & need to conserve. Even using "provider comparison sites," deciphering all providers & fine print is confusing.
What other home internet-only options / technologies are there, maybe cheaper than Uverse's $15 off offer (or even ~ same)? BTW, we're in a huge metro area.
Would "wireless internet" even work for home PCs (from a provider we don't have mobile service)?
Maybe add internet for our phones (on son's ATT plan) - AND could connect PCs at home?
We don't stream / download full length movies, but do more than check email.
Thought 1: If was going to pay ~ $43 for only 12 mbit uverse, why not pay $40-ish for Charter "up to 30 mbit." But (one) goal is cut cost - some, not doubling our speed.
Thought 2: Even if another provider / plan wasn't cheaper than Uverse's $15 off deal, once I accept that, Uverse will never offer a bigger discount, again. Possibly... switching to another provider, will get a bigger Uverse discount, if I switched back.
Appreciate the help!
