adding second modem to Uverse network

I have my Uverse gateway and wireless modem in the very far corner of my house. I could go into a long explanation about why they are in this location, but let's just please operate under the assumption that they are there PERMANENTLY and are not moving. I say that because I suspect a lot of potential solutions will simply be "move your modem to the middle of the house," but this is not as easy as it might seem given my home setup. My problem is that with the modem in the far corner, I get a very weak signal at the other end of the house. I have been researching powerline adapters, wireless range extenders, and adding a second wireless modem to my system. I have a Linksys E4200 and a Netgear N600 sitting around doing nothing. If possible I would like to use these to extend the wireless signal throughout my house. For example, if I could setup my E4200 in the living room (mind you, there is no hard-wired ethernet outlet there) and my Netgear upstairs (again, mind you, there is no hard-wired ethernet outlet there). Basically I want my AT&T wireless router in the corner of my house to wireless talk to my other two modems and extend my wireless coverage throughout my house. Does this potential setup bring the same downside as buying a wireless range extender, i.e. slower speeds? I know that powerline adapters are better, but they are apparently still slower than wireless. Anyway, just trying to figure out what my options are. I have been reading a bunch of articles on replacing the AT&T wireless router with your own, but I haven't found any that are particularly helpful regarding adding a second modem into the existing system.
