I just got off the phone with AT&T's technical support. I called them because all of a sudden I was getting 13 megabit speeds on my 18 megabit plan and noticed on the modem's diagnostic's menu that the max user rate was set at 16 megabits and user rate was at 14 megabit. My internet itself was working flawlessly and if I hadn't noticed the slightly lower speed when downloading a large file, it probably would've remained that way. Come to think of it, this may have been going on for some time and I just never noticed. The tech told me to reset the modem by holding down the reset button, which I did. It was taking a bit longer than expected to establish connection (the green power light was just flashing and nothing else) so the tech told me to unplug it and plug it back in, which I did.
The modem eventually did turn back on and established connection and my internet is working, albeit at the aforementioned 13 megabit speeds. The weird thing was after this, I became unable to access the modem from the 192.168.1.254 address. It just doesn't loan in my browser. What's more strange is that the tech was no longer able to see the modem from his end, even though I was clearly connected and browsing the internet. When I tried to ping it, it did respond with typical ping times under 5 ms. I've also tried connecting to the modem's own WiFi network (I use my own router) and while I can connect, nothing loads, I can't load any web page nor can I access its settings screen.
The tech scheduled an appointment for Saturday morning, but I'm wondering if there's something that maybe I can do and not waste 4 hours of my Saturday waiting for the tech to show up. It's so weird that my internet works and I can ping the modem, but I can't access it nor can the tech see it from his end. Has anyone seen something like this? Is it possible that the power cycle in the middle of the reset messed something up?
Thanks for the help!
