My Condo association recently contracted with AT&T to replace Comcast with U Verse.
I have been told that the U verse will be fiber. Comcast is cable. The condo will only cover the cable TV up to some amount of channels and some included boxes. I have no control over this but can purchase additional TV, phone and internet from AT&T. I have also been assured that if I desire I can use Comcast for internet and phone. I have had less then the best experience with Comcast in the past.
I recently purchased my unit and it is ground level one story building attached on one side and open on three sides. It was built in early 1990 so the wiring I assume is a long string not a home run. AT&T probably installed the phone copper when the unit was built in the same way.
The questions are
1 What will AT&T install; will they rewire the coaxial in the walls so as to allow Comcast to continue with internet as the present modem can be located anywhere in the building?
2 Will the interface be outside the unit with coax and phone wires to the inside?
3 Where will they put the interface box?
4 What kind of modem do they require and is it loaned free, or do I purchase my own or do I have to rent one from AT&T?
5 On the internet plans AT&T seem to require a year long contract. As this place is in Florida and I am what is known as a snow avoider I only require about 5 months service. Will this be a problem?
6 Phone I do not really care about as we use cells in Florida and find them adequate.
7 What speeds are offered in Palm Beach county Florida on U verse?
8 I am sure that there are other considerations I have not thought of so any other comments are welcome. The rest of the year I live in a Cablevision area and my daughter and her family live in a FIOS area so I am used to decent service and speeds with problems usually resolved quickly.
