For about a year, I was using my own purchased Pace 5031NV with AT&T Uverse (Max Turbo 24Mbps.) Both the connection and wifi were stable.
After having been unsuccessful in getting the equipment rental fee removed, I decided it was finally time to get AT&T to replace the old 3800HGV that came with our Uverse installation back in 2011. That unit no longer even syncs up to the UVerse service, and there's no point in using my own Pace 5031 becase I'm still paying the $7/mo equipment fee.
So I called AT&T tech support, asking them for a replacement AT&T gateway. They shipped me a 2Wire 3801HGV. After installing it, the Uverse internet connection works fine through the wired LAN cable (full speed.) But the wifi performance is very bad. At 10-feet away, I get 6Mbps. At 30 feet away, that drops to 2Mbps! I tried changing the wifi channel#, but that didn't help.
In contrast, the old 3800HGV would at least do 6MBps at 30feet away (that's the fastest service we had with the 3800HGV.) And from the same distance, the Pace 5031NV could hit 25-27Mbps when we had Max Pro Turbo.
I'm tempted to call AT&T, but I do'nt want them to ship me another replacement 3801HGV, not if it has the same (unusable) wifi performance.
I'd really like them to give me the NV589 (or at least a Pace 5031NV, since I don't subscribe to TV.) So when I call AT&T a second time, should I ask them for a technician visit? Will they swap out the 3801HG for a NV589/5031NV?
