I have had Uverse for probably 5+ years now. Had TV at one point, but still have internet + VOIP. Has always been rock solid. Upgraded to Power (45 mbps) last year, and after some initial teething issues, has been AMAZING.
Starting about 2 weeks ago, it's been nothing but flaky. Constant DNS errors (host not found), etc. Sometimes, the red light on the NVG589 flashes, but usually not. Sometimes, going to a web page is very fast. Other times, horribly slow - and it flips back and forth every few minutes. Have not changed ANYTHING on this end. Have seen several Uverse trucks in the neighborhood recently (510 area code) - not sure if that matters.
Same results for wireless and wired, so it's not anything to do with wireless reception, congestion, etc. Rebooting the NVG589 sometimes solves it for a few minutes. I'm a Linux power user, and as I said: it's been rock solid before. I do most of my work on a Linux box with a wired connection to a dumb 8-port GB switch, which then goes right to the NVG589.
A quick look at the status shows: bonded at 55 Mbps down, 6 up (the same as always). 12M IPv4 packets transmistted, 0 errors, 6 discards.
Why do I think it's DNS? When things go wrong, if I try dig or nslookup, I also get errors about "host not found". However, I can still ping 8.8.8.8 (google's DNS) during this time. So, if I can ping outside hosts, but can't resolve names, sounds like DNS to me.
How do I get to the right person to help diagnose such an issue? I have a feeling 1st level support won't have a clue where to start.
