I've done some research on this issue and found great threads already on this issue. I just wanted to get some clarification before I order the correct switch. A few of the threads I've read are a couple years old so wanted to make sure all the data is current.
I've read that the only switch our there that can handle the packets and IGMPv3 snooping is the NETGEAR GS108. Is this model on Amazon the correct one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MPVR50A/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1XMGI2U48IWF4&coliid=I1W57AED4GA19Z&psc=1
It's listed as a GS108 but the model number says GS108-400NAS. It's the only model of it's kind on Amazon.
I recently purchased 2 NETGEAR Gigabit GS308 switches and everything started going haywire which led to my research finding multiple threads on this site about the multicast packets and how that's making all my pc connections go nutty. Everything runs smooth but the instant I hit record on an HD feed my internet gets terrible and even pinging between two pcs on the same network makes the ping speeds go from 1ms to random craziness across the board. It's weird because if I simply move the other pcs to my 10/100 old switch it clears right up. Is it only gigabit switches that have the problem with the multicast packet issue? If I plug my DVR directly into the RG then everything is smooth. However while testing I noticed with any HD recording I do, it drops my 18MB internet down about 3mb per recording. With 3 HD recording at once and one SD playing my internet speed was about 6mb. Guessing this is normal behavior?
Sorry for the long rambling, in the end I want to order the correct NETGEAR switches and make sure it's all smooth. Also one last question, is it only PCs that are affected if they are on the same switch with the DVR and other Set Top Boxes? The reason I ask is that both of my CAT 5E runs to the other 2 boxes will be on switches that also have Roku and WD Live boxes. I'm assuming with the correct NETGEAR GS108 I should be good to go? Thanks!!
