I'm getting really itchy here with my 5Mbps speeds because the CO is on the other side of a hill I live on so the distance the "crow flies" is much shorter than the actual distance of the wires. Unfortunately AT&T changed the name of all their DSL service to "Uverse" so whenever I check on their website it says "Congrats Uverse is available at your location" but it's the same exact service plan as DSL (6Mbps max), there might be some new hardware ADSL2+ or whatever but it's the same old speed.
Now I did some research yesterday, and found out they got permits for a VRAD over 1.5 years ago 2 blocks away, took a look there and sure enough there's a VRAD (never drive down that street), and right next to it is a cross connect box. I'm not sure how long the VRAD is there, but as I clench my teeth here I'm wondering where my faster internet options are.
Now I know AT&T and SF have butted heads over the placement of these boxes, but the box is there, are they simply with holding turning them on? In hindsight I should have looked at the power meter to see if it was using juice. But is there any public notice as to when? As it stands my only option is Comcast and I really don't want to go down that road if possible. I'm pretty sure being 2 blocks away from everything should get me faster speeds than the 6Mbps plan too if it was actually in service. Just curious if the head butting is still going on and AT&T is playing stone face with it by with holding upgrading, last info I can find online about it is May 14,2014
