I have a friend that wants to leave the dark side (comcast) and is looking at Uverse for both internet and TV (Knoxville TN). He is currently using a WRT54G (stock f/w) with the comcast provided modem and is utilizing its time based permissions and MAC authentication. I know that MAC authentication is available with the uverse hardware but am unsure about the timed permissions (using it to keep someone from playing xbox all night)
To make things simple, he wants to keep using the WRT54G as the primary access control device. How much of a pain is this going to be?
I would assume that the wifi built into the pace router will have to be disabled. My main concern is the double NAT layers. How much trouble can this cause? He would rather not use the permissions in the uverse box for simplicity sake.
Its been a while since Ive played with this stuff so I'm not really up on the new hardware. Any help is appreciated.
