I can now only get 768K service with U-verse?

 I am a part-year resident in the USA getting ready to return, and since the cable provider only supplies TV, and not the internet, I am stuck with AT&T. I originally had DSL service up until a few years ago, at which time I was forced to upgrade to U-verse (I was able to negotiate the modem for free, though :D), which I got with the 3 MB service. So I call up to get new service, and the first yahoo tells me that I could only get 768K service with U-verse, but could get DSL up to 6 MB service. :uhh: I told him that I was forced to get U-verse and that DSL wasn't available. He then tried to weasel out be saying he could "check to see if DSL is available", but only if he tried to sign me up. :uhh: This sounded quite fishy to me, so I called up again. The 2nd rep said that I could not get DSL service, but unfortunately I'd be stuck with only 768K service. He said that although I got 3 MB in the past, now only 768K is possible, with the reason being that my home is too far from the station. This makes me wonder if I was getting 3 MB in the past, or getting ripped off. I did get the hookup and activation fees waived (it seems that one can always ask and get this, especially if everything is ready to go from the last service.) BTW, I am in Russia now, and get 75 MB service for $9/mo (it was $11/mo before the ruble sunk due to the Ukraine situation.) This service is so fast that I can torrent a movie and sometimes have it ready in like 10 minutes! I also like to watch live sports through a streaming site, and I wonder if my turtle-speed service will be fast enough. (I'd have to buy a digital TV antenna & TV card to watch TV otherwise. :()
