We have U-verse for TV and we have Comcast Business for Internet. The main TV downstairs is right next to the U-verse router, so that U-verse box is plugged in via Ethernet. That is the only TV that works perfectly. The other U-verse boxes in the house connect via coax and experience stuttering and other problems that makes them only borderline watchable.
We have an internal home network that brings gigabit Ethernet to every room. This network is setup to use the Comcast internet connection.
I would like to see if it's possible to connect all of our U-verse boxes to our existing Ethernet infrastructure. To do this I assume that I would need to:
-Disable DHCP on the U-verse router. (so that all my computers, phones, etc continue to be assigned IPs that have them using our Comcast internet connection)
-Manually configure the IP information for each U-verse box. (so it doesn't get assigned IPs from the DHCP server on our Comcast side)
-Make sure that the Gateway IP is not the same, and that subnets do not overlap. (Unlikely given my custom config on the Comcast side)
Other than that, there shouldn't be any issue with the two networks co-existing on the same Layer 2 infrastructure, right? Is it possible to manually configure the U-verse boxes in this manner? Is there anything else I'm missing?
Thanks!
