I had a POTS line installed two months ago and could not be happier with the service. I went back to POTS because it just works - I tried some VOIP providers, but I was always fiddling with QoS settings on my router, I had a hard time keeping it working during extended power outages, I always had concerns in the back of my mind about E911 being able to find me, etc..
So I got a POTS line after about 5 years without one, and its great! I use a normal phone, there is no equipment to troubleshoot/power cycle/etc.. and we've had two extended (1+ day long) power outages in the past month where I was able to use a corded phone! Great! My UPS would only give me about 10 hours of keeping the cable modem, VOIP ATA and router running.
However, AT&T contacts me sometimes as frequently as twice a day trying to get me to switch to U-verse! Its funny, the script always starts out referring to me as a 'long time customer' despite having had service 8 weeks. But the people who call don't seem to realize the benefits of POTS. I've asked them to put me on a do not call list, but to no avail. I contacted the FCC about it, but it seems AT&T is permitted to contact me since I do business with them.
