Hi everyone. I am new to U-verse as of 6/1/14 and so far, I love the TV and phone, but I am definitely not getting what I paid for internet speed wise. I am paying for 18mbps down and per the speed test right now, I'm getting 3.76 with a 248ms ping. And this speed is after doing to following to my NVG589: changed to channel 6 (also tried 11), made sure bandwidth is 20 mhz, and I also broadcasting in only N.
I currently have one TV running, the house phone, this computer, probably 4 phones (not in use, but connected), and one ipad connected through a wireless connection. With all this going on, what WIRELESS download speed should I reasonably expect? Anything else I can do to speed it up - I can't even watch a netflix with that speed (without constant loading)?
Some background info: I had the AT&T guy come back out last week and re-locate the router. I was getting about .6 mbps down, so I called AT&T and the sent someone out. The dude had the nerve to say that speed was normal on wireless, and when he connected my computer with a wire and everything else was off, I was still only getting 15 mbps down. He said that was normal to and left...well, he tried to leave...but luckily my husband got home just as he walked out of the door and "talked" him into coming back in and fixing it. He relocated the gateway to the living room, which is closer to the center of the house, which supposedly required running new wires. When he was done, I was able to get 14 mbps down wirelessly, even with the TV/phones/ipad/etc connected. It was good for a few days, now it's crap again.
I have been on a two year quest for good wireless internet. I have posted before in the earthlink section. I had earthlink for 9 years in total, I paid for a 6 mbps connection and it was fine for all except the last two years (which i will concede, we have a lot more devices that use internet now than we did nine years ago). I have struggled with my wireless constantly for the past two years and I just want to know what exactly I need to do to watch a Netflix in my room without constant loading, WHILE my 12 year old is on Xbox live, and my 9 year old is watching Nick. AM I ASKING TOO MUCH??? lol I would even spring for the 45 mbps at this point, but if I can't get close to 18 mbps, how is it even going to touch the 30+ range?
