U-verse with no connection for a week, About to switch to another ISP

Hi all, about 4 months ago I switched from At&T DSL to U-verse. Since then I've had a few issues, and AT&T has not been able to resolve them to my satisfaction and I'm not sure what to do anymore. It started about 3 months ago when one of my ports went out and had to be changed. I was having slow speeds and dropping connections. After that the system was fine until about a week ago when I came home from work and discovered that I had no connection to the net. I called support and they sent a tech out. He was able to restore the connection for about a day. By Friday it was out again and another tech was sent he replaced the modem. I had a connection for about 45 minutes after he left. I called him and never got a response back. So I called Support again. This time two techs were sent out (one inside and one outside) and again I had spotty connection and Wifi kept dropping. So on Tuesday another outside tech came and worked on some lines up the street that he said had water damage. But while he was able to get me a good hardwire connection, my wireless was still not connecting. Or it would connect and show limited connection and I could not even get to the 589's web page. I called bacl to Support and they also had lots of problems connecting to my system. It would ask for access code and not accept it, would not accept a connection etc... So they scheduled another tech who came out to day and tried 2 more 589s and had the same problem. It would connect for a few minutes then drop the wireless connection. We've tried all permutations of channels and none were solid. So when support called me to check on the service and I told her it was still no good on wifi she suggested moving the 589, changing outlets and she'll ship me yet another unit. So I tried her suggestions and of course no go. I even thought I'd try and different wifi router and hook it up to the 589 to see if that worked. However I can't quite figure out how to get the two hooked up. I've read about a dozen articles on the configuration and I can't seem to get it working. I'm about to rip u-verse out and switch to another ISP. I'm at my wits end. I've lived in this house for about 5 years and have not had any wifi problems until last week. I know it's not my equipment as I can connect any where else with my laptop, tablets, phone etc... Just not in the house. I've not added or changed anything that would cause this. Does anyone here have any suggestions?
