I have spent hrs literally on phone with the Phillipine phone company aka ATT U-Verse tech support. To no avail.
Here is my primary problem with this. Every device that comes on to the wireless list is shown initally as being static IP address. And that cannot be edited. If I wait awhile, it will eventually show up with the name of the device and the local private IP.
Not so for the wireless bridge adapter I use to connect my home security system to. It gets assigned a static IP and that never changes. I was able to forward a server port for the DVR but I had to forward the port on the wireless bridge since the DVR is not showing up behind it as a device on the LAN.
Is this normal behavior?
This behavior started about 2 weeks ago with no changes on my end. I have a similar wireless bridge for my direct tv dvr and both show up on the list of devices but the dvr itself has no IP. I can see its MAC.
That wireless adapter also is stuck in static mode.
There are no settings available to turn DHCP on or off so I know its not off. I was advised to assign a static IP to the Swann DVR that is outside the pool of DHCP allocations but the 2Wire gateway will not allow that.
Last weekend I plugged in my work laptop and it was assigned an IP immediately from the pool. Only it was the one that was statically assigned to the Swann DVR. This gateway has an odd concept of static.
Last night I came home to discover that my forward ports had been removed.
So sould I start lobbying for a newer RG for my home? Or will that be frying pan to fire?
I had two other 2Wire gateways prior to getting this one. Both of them refused to allow devices to reconnect. A technician came to the house, used his own iPhone to verify this and gave me a new one. It lasted three months or so, then I had it replaced via shipment to front door. Three bad RGs is enough for me. I really would rather get another.
I find it notable that the 2Wire forum here is dead in the water.
