I was an early U-verse adopter, signing up back in 2008. I've had a couple of RG replacements over the years, but we're still on the original DVR. (Motorola VIP 1216)
How long do these things usually last? I figure the hard drive is approaching "could die at any minute" territory just based on its age, but what about the rest of the electronics? (The unit is not obstructed in any way so there's no airflow restriction.)
A couple of times I've gotten HDMI errors, just from doing something like changing the channel. I've not changed or moved the HDMI cable itself so I'm pretty sure the fault lies in the DVR. A warm reset and/or complete power cycle clears it up.
This morning it said it couldn't get a TV signal, even though the connection was fine (no problems on Internet). A warm reset cleared that up.
Qs:
Sound like it could be dying? Since these problems are random and intermittent how do I "prove" this to tech support to get a replacement?
I presume there's no way for the tech to copy any saved recordings to the new unit, right?
Any way to get a capacity upgrade while I'm at it? (Ideally for free.)
