I have UVerse, and up until this point I only had 2 boxes, one a normal DVR box and the other a wireless box. My configuration is that the RG is connected to the box outside via ethernet. I then have coax running from the RG into a 8 way splitter that feeds my DVR in the living room. At this point, there are no other TV's hooked up other outputs of the 8 way splitter. This configuration has been working for us over the last year.
Recently I decided to order 2 more boxes, so ATT came out and brought us a standard STB and another wireless box. The installer evidentally was new, because he took 2 hours to install this. When I got home (I was at work, and my wife was home for the install) I found that our TV in the living room was no longer working. I went to my wiring cabinet to see what he did. The installer took the coax coming out of the RG (which was previously going into a 8 way splitter), put a barrel connect on it, and connected it directly to the STB in the upstairs bedroom. The explained why the living room DVR was no longer working, as it wasn't being fed with any signal from the RG!
Now, in my feeble mind I thought I would "correct" the situation and just put the coax from the RG back into the splitter, and connect the coax from the living room DVR and the upstairs STB into it. In my mind, this sounded logical. However, it actually didn't work. Only one of the TV's would work at a given time, while the other would report that it couldn't get a signal.
So I'm asking how the installer should have wired my house. To review, I have the following configuration
* Connection from box outside house to RG is via ethernet.
* Coax from RG is fed into an 8 way splitter.
* STB from living room and bedroom are connected into the same splitter.
What is the recommended way to make this work? I appreciate your help.
