I was looking at placing an order for the 12mbps service with a fiber drop to the outside of the house. As I was processing the online order, naturally the system wanted to charge me $100. I chatted with AT&T on line and was told I would receive the IP IG51X.
Either here, or another site, a post said the IP IG5!X is actually a Motorola NVG510. I don't know myself. I copied the following from another post because I'm new and can't post to older posts. How do you determine what type of service or connection you will be getting?

I don't know if there's a modem with a fiber connection, but when I asked the chat guy as to why they don't put fiber all the way, he said once they get to the house, they'll use whatever is there.
If you have IPDSLAM ADSL2+ U-Verse, the compatible customer owned modem models include (assuming they have current firmware versions): 2Wire/Pace 2701 HGV (black & gray model, NOT the white model), Motorola 2210 (the black model, NOT the gray model), Motorola NVG510 (black in color), or 2Wire/Pace 5031 NV
If you have FTTN VDSL2 U-Verse, the compatible customer owned modem models include (assuming they have current firmware versions): 2Wire/Pace 3600 HGV, 2Wire/Pace 5031 NV, or Motorola 2310
If your U-Verse service is to be provided by either xPON FTTP or Pair Bonded FTTN VDSL2 U-Verse, you have to rent a modem, but also you should not have qualified for a self installation either, as there are no customer owned options (at this time) for FTTP or FTTN-Pair Bonded service
